Os Guiness has reminded me recently that, as seekers and sojourners, we often start out searching, but we end up being discovered.  We think we are looking for something; we realize we are found by Someone.  I wonder if we sometimes can become overly occupied with the activity of knowing at the expense of being known.  It is a powerful thing to be known by Someone.

  1. For some reason this made an old Queen song come to mind, “Somebody to Love.” The catch is that while we readily occupy ourselves looking for somebody to love, what we desperately long for is somebody to love us. Again, to be found rather than to find. It makes me wonder how more easily I would receive what I’m looking for if I just gave myself away, focusing only on the act of giving, not the receiver of the gift. To release yourself freely to someone is to be known by them.
