creative altruism

“Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or the darkness of destructive selfishness.  This is the judgement.  Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?'”  -Martin Luther King, Jr.

  1. I think for a lot of people this isn’t even a condideration – “It’s all about me!” is their motto for living. For some it is a struggle to accept that it needs to be about others sometimes. For some it is a realization that it’s important for it to be about others sometimes. Lastly, there are those who grasp that the realization of living a full live is to make it about others as much as possible. And fight with their inability.

  2. Hey Rick! That is so good. I often see myself waffling between those first three types of people. And the desires and efforts to love others puts me face to face with my inability to really do just that. But that inability and inadequacy pushes me toward toward the One who is adequate and who loves perfectly. Such a mystery…that fullness is found through inadequacy.
